Brodick to Sannox via Goatfell Ridge
<< PREVIOUS SECTION RETURN TO MAIN WEBSITE NEXT SECTION >>
From the ferry terminal walk through Brodick for 1km. Leaving the main road at the putting green and picking up the fisherman's walk, the way will cross three bridges. After 600 metres an iron bridge crosses over the Rosaburn. Turn right and follow the burn downstream. Follow the edge of the beach to its end and cross the wooden bridge. Cross the main road into Cladach and follow the path marked Goatfell unless using the low level alternative (the cycle track to Corrie - see below).

Follow the Goatfell track for 2km, then through a large gate in the deer fence. In a further 2km the path to Corrie joins the main track from the right. Straight ahead leads uphill to Goatfell and, at 4 o'clock (that is to your right and behind you), is the track eventually leading downhill to Corrie. This is a decision point: if in doubt about weather or fitness take the path down to Corrie, otherwise a further 800ft takes you to the summit. This route should not be attempted in bad weather or low cloud. After enjoying the view, retrace your steps and take the Corrie path; after 1 km there is a stile and after that in about 2km the track goes past High Corrie and then left at the main road.

In poor weather an easier route saves 2.5km and 500m of altitude. Follow the main road from Cladach past the main entrance to Brodick Castle; after 350m take the Merkland track and follow it for 500m. At the 'Maol Loop' sign bear right up hill and take the new cycle path to Corrie. Re-join the main road, then turn left and walk through Corrie to Sannox.
