his section starts with an easy stroll along Fisherman’s Walk to Cladach, where there is a cluster of shops. Walkers then have the choice to take the coastal route through Merkland Wood or alternatively climb to the summit of Goatfell (874m). From High Corrie to Sannox the route follows the coastal road, where there is plenty of wildlife to look out for.

Goatfell is recommended for fit walkers, competent at navigation, and not in bad weather or low cloud. There are no Coastal Way route markers once you enter the National Trust for Scotland land or on Goatfell itself.

PLEASE NOTE: the Coastal Way between Merkland Wood and Corrieburn bridge (NS019391 and NS026422) may at times be closed due to forestry operations during Spring/Summer 2022. Please follow local signage.

The alternative route is via Goatfell path to the cairn at NR998415 and then turning east to meet the coast at Corrieburn bridge. A further alternative is to take the 324 bus to Corrie to avoid road walking (which is not recommended due to the narrow and twisting nature of the road and lack of footway.)
